Hey guys,

I think this project is at a stage now at which I can publicly announce it: For quite some time I've been working on making a controllable train (locomotive + carts) in Battlefield 1942. After a lot of fails and also thoughts about just quitting the project I was finally able to find a good way to make it stable and mostly glitch free. Since I've seen the train carts on Stalingrad this has always been a dream of mine and I think the result is pretty good for the BF1942 engine.

Big thanks to Mr_J and Army Division for providing a server and helping with testing.

Most people (including me) thought trains would be too glitchy and laggy in Battlefield 1942 and didn't even try it or gave up too soon. But as you can see (and to my surprise) it runs fairly smooth even around corners. By far the trickiest part was to create a proper coupling which took me the most time. Looking at it now it's actually a pretty simple design I just didn't think of it first.

The next step will be adding sounds and effects then I'll gladly share it with any modding team who wants it.

Yes a special map would be nice because I don't see much usefulness for it on the current ones we have.

i  think this would be really cool addition to fhsw, they should have made it standard bf1942 from the very begining, again fhsw and modding in general makes me think that EA were super lazy when they made bf..

I didn't realise that trial run was so smooth, it looks good indeed.
BTW your video has got 600 views at the moment. Where have you posted it besides this forum?

Not sure if you are familiar with reddit, it's a bit difficult to explain how it works.

Yeah that's an unusual high view count but I'm not complaining. biggrin Feel free to share it on your sites, more publicity for BF1942/FHSW is always good.

Huge railway guns like K-5 are impossible to make with this system because you can't have bogies. I'm not sure how much longer you can make a cart until it derails on corners. My dream is to have the Panzerzug BP 42 or BP 44 but that would be a huge project.

Aw thats a pity i was gonna say just put it on a bogie, but i guess you tried.

I think it would be cool to have a passenger car that heals infantry inside it, but anyway even as is its super cool, really hope i can get my hands on it one day.

How tough is it though? like what would happen if a tank was blocking the tracks?

Really nice work endless!!
On Manchuria is a japanese train with a 12 cm gun.
A 21 cm gun would be nice also and might work out without additional bogies.

I wish that FHSW Devs or someone else asked Battlegroup42 team for his nice looking, german locomotive which is a static object currently.

mh, dont think so. They really did a great job on an awesome arcade multiplayer first person shooter.
We should be grateful that they had released a modkit and map editor with the game. Also in spite of this modern BF3 / BF 4 (i mean BF 3.5) stuff ...

That is one gorgeous looking locomotive MrJ I would love to use that. Looks really long though.

@Simo: That is a very simple setting, it depends on the mass you set. If you set it super high like it is on the Maus it simple steamrolls everything.

btw. FHSWman saw it and would like to take a closer look on it.

always had told that movable armored trains (panzerzug) with their wagons are possible in battlefield 1942

battlefield 1942 has one of the most incredible railroad tracks than any other action shooter so it needed some incredible armored trains

hunting world war two armored trains or world war one armored trains is now possible
